Jura House Gardens is one of the essential places to visit on Jura, half way between the ferry and Craighouse there is convenient parking beside the main road and some excellent walks through the woods and fields. We walked down to the small beach which is ideal for sand and small kids. Always bear in mind that there are strong currents and you should not swim and that violet jellyfish are harmless but the brown ones sting badly.

We had a 4 year old along with us and he managed the steep paths down fine and the steep paths up also.

All the pictures on this page will expand to the full sized originals if you click on them.

At the top of the path the gardens are filled with an exciting collection of exotic plants - any of them on sale at the greenhouses.

Beside the meadow flowers photographed here there is a tea tent where you can get tea, coffee juice and home made cakes. Picnic tables are provided here if you prefer to lug around food with you.

You could make an entire website on the walled garden situated just above the picnic area. I have many pictures but I have limited myself to these two shots.

The one on the left is from a patch of lilies I liked the look of.

The other picture looks across the rose garden, covered in campions at this time of year with the formal maze of carefully trimmed box leading the eye to a stone circle ideal for photographs.

There is a small fee entering the gardens and using the walks payable at the gate as you go in.
